February 22, 2012 ? Daniels Electronics Ltd., a leading global supplier of high reliability Land Mobile Radio (LMR) base stations and repeaters, and Catalyst Communications Technologies, Inc., a leading provider of Internet Protocol (IP) based dispatch and interoperability solutions, today demonstrated Project 25 Fixed Station Interface (FSI) Interoperability with a wide array of standard and proprietary communications tools.? In the Catalyst booth at the International Wireless Communications Expo, the companies routed push-to-talk voice using the TIA-102.BAHA compliant FSI interface between the Daniels MT-4 base station and the Catalyst IP FSI Gateway.? The demonstration further included routing this conventional P25 audio to Digital Mobile Radio, NXDN, Verizon Wireless Push-To-Talk, and to a P25 Trunking capable control station as well as Catalyst?s IP|ConsoleTM.? The solution also supports interoperability with SMARTNET?, EDACSTM, and Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)-based products such as telephony and collaboration tools.? The companies showed the P25 Unit ID pass through the FSI link and display on the console screen and in the electronic log of the console; custom graphics for each channel were also displayed.
The Daniels digital Universal Interface card (UIC) provides an Ethernet connection from the Daniels MT-4 P25 radio system to the Catalyst Dispatch and Interoperability solution. Voice and control messages are routed across an agency?s existing IP network using any combination of hardwired and RF paths including satellite. ?The companies previously announced the installation of a system with three MT-4 base stations strategically located to provide radio communications across a 5.4 million acre territory ? an area the size of New Hampshire.? Today?s demonstration shows further enhancements to that technology while continuing to support low-bandwidth satellite connectivity.
This demonstration is the next chapter in a rich history of P25 collaboration between the companies.? Daniels President Robert Small notes that ?Daniels and Catalyst were the first to field an interface based on the emerging FSI standard.? In support of developing the FSI standard our engineering teams worked through the details and provided information to the P25 standards committees.?? Catalyst President Robin Grier adds that ?when we installed that first system in 2005 we both committed to implementing the completed standard and are pleased to allow industry representatives to actually use it today.?
Catalyst offers a variety of solutions, from integrated primary public safety dispatch and interoperability using its IP|Console and IntelliLinkTM user interfaces to back-up, mobile, and supplementary solutions including its Desktop DispatchTM product.? Its peer-to-peer architecture provides a robust mission critical solution to eliminate single points of failure and bottlenecks. The digital interface between the company?s products and IT implementation simplify the installation and maintenance of the combined Daniels and Catalyst solution.
Daniels MT-4 Digital P25 Radio systems are known for their reliability, high performance, and customizability. The customizability is due to the modular construction of the transmitters, receivers, and associated modules, which are designed for a variety of frequency bands from 136 ? 869 MHz. This modularity allows the custom configuration of radio systems to meet users? specific applications such as base, repeater and cross band systems. The collaborative effort with Catalyst and its Voice over IP and IP Control technologies has further enhanced the flexibility of Daniels radios and added new functionality.
