A Washington state man suspected of killing two convicted sex offenders told police officers Sunday that he had intended to kill a third sex offender, according to court records obtained by msnbc.com.
On Saturday, Patrick Boyd Drum of Sequim, Wash., allegedly fatally shot his new roommate, Gary Lee Blanton Jr., 28, before driving to the home of Jerry Wayne Ray.
Around that time, police received a call from man who said, ?Help, 911, I?m being shot,? according to court records. Dispatchers were unable to locate the source of call.
The next morning,?Ray?was found unresponsive at his home. Deputies found an abandoned rental car issued to Drum, 33,?with an empty box of 9mm bullets and a note apologizing for the disturbances, according to the court records.
They later found Blanton, 55, also dead. His wife told police that Blanton had told her he was going camping with Drum.
By the end of the day Sunday, police found Drum, who agreed to a recorded interview with a sheriff?s detective, according to the court records. He told the detective that he shot Ray and Blanton several times ?because they were sex offenders," the records quoted him as saying. He told the detective that he had intended to drive to another county and kill a third sex offender, according to the records.
It was?unclear how Drum knew the men were sex offenders.
Blanton, 28, was convicted in 2001, when he was a teenager, of third-degree rape, according to the National Sex Offender Registry. Ray was convicted in 2002 of first-degree rape of a child.
Karen Unger, Drum's?appointed lawyer, was not available for comment on Tuesday.
