Nordisk Takes Israeli Singing Show 'Rising Star' for Scandinavia

COLOGNE, Germany – Israeli group Keshet International has closed another territory for its red-hot singing format Rising Star, singing a deal with Nordisk Film for local-language rights to the show across Scandinavia.

The deal, announced Monday, follows sales of Rising Star to RTL in Germany, M6 in France and Russia's Rossiya 1.

Rising Star is attracting attention because of its innovative use of mobile second-screen technology. The format allows viewers to vote during the show for their favorite singers, with the votes tallied live on air and the results determining the outcome.

So far, Rising Star has only aired in Israel, where it has been a smash hit, scoring an audience share of more than 49 percent and boasting conversion rates (the number of total viewers which also use the show's second screen app) of more than 30 percent.

Key to Rising Star's international success will be the ability of Keshet and Israeli shingle Tedy Productions in scaling up its live voting technology for much larger territories and for countries - such as Russia or, eventually, the United States - where voting will take place over several time zones.
